About the event
Fusatsu, our ceremony of remembering the ancestors, atoning our unskillful actions, and reaffirming our Zen precepts, is a deeply moving and significant ceremony within the Zen tradition. We observe it monthly, on the Sunday closest to the full moon. During Fusatsu, we confront the suffering stemming from our mistaken belief in our separateness from the world. We seek atonement for the endless greed and anger that arise from this ignorance. This helps to restore us to wholeness and harmony.
The ceremony begins with the chanting of the Verse of Atonement and the names of the ancestors of our Zen lineage.
Next, we renew our vows, reaffirming our commitment to live in alignment with our true, pure nature.
Accompanied by the sound of bells and marked by deep bows, Fusatsu is an expression of wisdom that we internalize not only through words but through our entire being. This ceremony is a cornerstone of our practice and essential for the inner peace we all strive for.
